Cranial Osteopathy

Understanding Cranial Osteopathy.

Woman Receiving Treatment to her Head

This is a technique that some Osteopaths use to help the body recover its function.

Cranial osteopathy is a misleading term because it can be used on any area of the body, not just the head.

The body makes continuous rhythmical cycles of motion such as breathing and heartbeat, which can be seen, and cranial rhythm, which is so subtle it cannot be seen.

I use my hands to "listen" for any impaired motion, restrictions or strains in the body. I am able to feel these alterations of movements because I have a highly developed sense of touch and am trained to detect the very subtle changes that occur in all body tissues. Using small hand movements, I gently help the tissues to adjust, resolving the strain within them.

Although Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle technique it is more effective and powerful than the subtle movements used would suggest. Most clients report feeling nothing more than subtle sensations during a typical session.

Cranial Osteopathy is used to treat babies and children because of its gentleness. It is also very effective on adults too and can be used to treat a twisted or broken ankle as well as neck pain or headache.
